Welcome from the Principal

Welcome to Big Hill Primary School.

Our school is situated on the Calder Highway on the southern fringe of Bendigo. The school draws its population from both rural and urban areas and has a mix of socio-economic backgrounds. The current school enrolment is 245 students. A new school building was built in 1998. The school has attractive surrounds including an adjoining flora and fauna reserve and is committed to sustainable practices in regard to water and energy use.

The school has a strong and rigorous focus on maximising all student’s Literacy and Numeracy outcomes and involving students, parents and staff in the learning process. The school has a very strong Performance Culture with all students participating in School Productions and Senior students participating in the Annual Bendigo Eisteddfod and numerous other cultural activities.  The school continues to adjust it's Behaviour Management Policy to provide a safe environment for all children.

Various special support services are available. A School Chaplain is available for two days each week and access to support from Speech Therapists, Psychologists and Social Workers for children in need.  The school also supports an active program for Students with Disabilities and children with other special needs.

Big Hill PS has it’s own Multi-purpose Room, a School Canteen that operates three days each week, Instrumental music teachers who provide on a fee paying basis tuition in Guitar, Violin, Keyboard, Clainet and Flute. An extensive playground area incorporating a 50 metre long Synthetic Turf oval. The school harvests water to operate the student toilets and has installed Solar Panels  to generate power back into the school’s electricity grid.

Finally, our school has both before and after school care programs.
